Since this 2021 D-18 Authentic was "aged" by Martin before it was shipped, it's impossible for us to determine what wear was added by the previous owner. Judging by the almost total lack of any fret wear, our guess is that not much of the wear you see on it now occurred after it left Nazareth, but who knows? And, more importantly, does it matter? What does matter is that it's a great sounding D-18 that captures the clarity and crunch that has made Martin's mahogany D models from this era so desirable for flat pickers. Yes, the powerful bass response is there when you need it, but the overtones and sustain don't cloud the mids and treble response so your fills and leads can come through the mix. But smooth tone for backing vocals is also there, making this a do-anything Dreadnought. Original throughout with original case.
The D-18 Authentic 1939 Aged is built using the same material and techniques Martin was using in the late 1930s such as hide glue construction and hand-scalloped X-bracing. The Adirondack top is enhanced with the Vintage Tone System (VTS), a process that ages the wood to replicate the sound of a vintage Martin. In the Aged version, Martin subtly distresses the finish, giving it the patina of an 80 year old guitar that has been used but not abused.
